Exploring And Enjoying AZ

**this is the blog post for Sunday, October 7th.  Silly time zone!**

Last night(Saturday) we spent a wonderful night at Hubbys' Aunts' house.

Lots of family.  Lots of good food.

Lots of cousins!

G, Hubbys' cousins' little boy, loved watching Hubby play guitar.

Hubby tried to get G to take the pick and play. G was tentative, but Hubby got him to do it a couple times.

G liked it best when Hubby played.  Then he was able to dance and clap.

G is such a cutie.  E and L(a cousin of Hubbys') are watching, waiting to help G play.  They are good big cousins.

It was a great night.  We are looking forward to heading up to Flagstaff to spend more time with family on Tuesday-Friday.

Today(Sunday) we took a drive to the Lost Dutchman State Park.

It was just beautiful.

D&E posing for me.  Good girls.

The views were just amazing.

Hubby and the girls at the start of our small hike.

Even at 9:30 in the morning it was hot.  Really hot.

So we did one of the shorter loops.

Here is the picturesque Saguaro Cactus.

They are truly amazing to see in person.  And beautiful.

Here is another type of cactus.  Those spines look so dangerous.

Cannot even imagine what it would feel like to get pricked by one of these.

This type grows almost tree-like.  Very interesting.

From Lost Dutchman, we headed over to Goldfield Ghost Town.

It was very touristy.

But we did the goldmine tour.  And that was very informative.

Let's just say, I don't think I would have wanted to be a worker in the goldmine back in the late 1890's.

And that is one thing that blows me away.  That this town, Goldfield, only existed from about 1893-1898.  And then it was gone.

The tour guide was great.  Lots of fun information.

The shaft for the goldmine itself went down approx. 1000 feet.  That's about the height of the Empire State Building.  Amazing.

The orignial buildings were all gone, but have most have been replicated to show what the town looked like during its heyday.

I just loved this sign I found behind the gates at the "Livery".

D enjoying a rest on a bench.

We enjoyed a frozen lemonade.  It hit the spot in the 90+ degree heat.

Some pottery that was being sold in a shop in the "town".

I loved the pottery shop.

The crusty old guy was the guy.

He made all the pottery that is sold at the shop.  And he makes all his own molds.

This was a great well-used pottery workshop.

The blocks that are on the shelves are some of the molds used to make items for the shop.

The pottery was beautiful.

I found a pot for myself.  It is a simple piece with really pretty colors and somehow he worked aqua colored glass into the bottom.  Really, really pretty.

It was a great day.

We capped it off with a delicious dinner.

And then we met up with Aunt J, Uncle D, Aunt N, and L for frozen yogurt.

Yum.

Dessert with family.  Priceless.

Here are D&E with L.  I think if they could figure out how to get her in our suitcase to come home with us, they would.

She is a sweetie.  And they get along great.

potd #279.  Lost Dutchman State Park.  Absolutely Beautiful. This is a definite must see if you go to Arizona.
